The artist has given the complete sum of his £25k award winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

The star was given the cheque on 16 October as his new release his work was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

He has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages played in his early career.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the region, and beyond, when I was starting out," stated Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.

Fender also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to support 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges stemming from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues were granted funding support in improving amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The concept that funds from concerts in large arenas helps the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

Back when the band earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their album Different Class, frontman Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer she shared her award among a few organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also donated a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners they donated their prize to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," remarked artist Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the cherry, because we had the cake. So our success affected somebody else's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued several local spots in south-east England, by transferring them to local control.

The first in that area and the second in Bristol were acquired under the community ownership program, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "shares" in the venues.
