19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in that event in the past months.

His retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

He saved 4 early chances in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
