Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
